Art People Gallery Presents Artist Simin Massoudi in a Solo Exhibit on June 9th

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) May 30, 2012

Simin Massoudis artwork will be on exhibit at Art People Gallery, a premier San Francisco gallery on June 9th, 2012 from 4-8pm.

Artist Simin Massoudi (formerly Massoudi Meykadeh) started painting in Tehran, Iran. In the 1970s, she took art classes with renowned artist Sirak Melkonian who inspired her to paint freely and use her imagination, something that she has continued to do to this day. Melkonian encouraged his students to look at the world with the eyes of their imagination, instead of copying it. Simin Massoudi sees shapes, faces, and lines which perhaps no one else notices, a secret she feels she shares with nature. Her goal is to simplify her lines and her paintings, and still convey the full range of her feelings without cluttering the eye of the viewer with details. One of her fondest and proudest memories as an artist was forged during one of her early Open Studio shows, when a 10-year old looked at one of her drawings and told his mother: Wow, this drawing only has 8 lines, and it shows everything! Massoudi felt touched and happy because the young boy understood.

Simin Massoudi has always been a lover of modern art. She has been inspired by Picasso, Matisse, Modigliani, and more recently Fernand Leger. Her imaginations eye captures the essence of her subject by means of a few simple lines, conveying the emotion of an embrace between a mother and her child, or the poignant intensity of a moment of loneliness.

In 1989, Massoudi was part of a group exhibition entitled Contemporary Art of the Islamic World at the Barbican center in London. The show was organized by the Duke of Kent and Mrs. Wijdan Ali, cousin of King Hossein of Jordan, with a view to fostering relations between both countries, and to familiarizing the public with Islamic art. Massoudi was among the five contestants selected to represent Iran. Today, as a result, her painting is on display in the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts permanent collection.
