STYLE Features Interview with White Room Challenge Contestant Jessica Goudreau on her Experience with Reality TV and LED Lighting

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) September 09, 2012, a leading source for high-quality, sustainable LED lighting, recently interviewed The White Room Challenge contestant, Jessica Goudreau, on her experience with the reality TV show and working with LED lighting in the challenge. The White Room Challenge premiered on HGTV in May, and will be returning September 21 to HGTVs fall lineup.

Created from the fan-favorite episode of HGTVs Design Star, The White Room Challenge brings together up-and-coming and established designers from around the country to compete to create the most original white room transformations using strange or unusual items. Each week four designers are selected to compete in a different challenge using items ranging from candy to flowers to lighting.

“I had auditioned for Design Star before, so I was glad that they chose me to be on the White Room Challenge instead, said designer Jessica Goudreau of East Side Interiors in New York. It’s a more avant-garde show and I had a blast interacting with the camera crews and understanding how shows are filmed behind the scenes. I also appreciated the opportunity to display my work to such a broad audience.”

In the episode Goudreau was featured in, Transforming a Blank White Room After a Trip to the Lighting Store, designers had to transform a 10 x 10 plain space into a bright spacing using many forms of lighting as their medium. The light store was created with the help of LED lighting from online retailer

We chose LED light strings and rope lights in bold and vibrant colors to give the designers a wide color palette to work with, explained Stacy Brown, Marketing Director for Since LED lights are so energy-efficient, we knew the designers would be able to work with long runs and not have to worry about multiple power sources. That way they could just focus on their design. supplied over 30 different types of LED light strings to design with, in standard colors and non-traditional colors like teal and hot pink. They also provided LED rope light, which is sold in long reels up to hundreds of feet as you can see in the pictures of The White Room Challenges lighting store design.

“The lighting challenge was by far the toughest of the season,” said Goudreau. “But I was excited about the medium because I have worked with lighting a lot before, and I have a pretty good understanding of low-voltage LED lighting systems. I also loved that the rooms were being judged in the dark!”

Designers were given a limited amount of time and budget to shop for lighting products before they needed to start transforming their 10-foot by 10-foot white room. They had two days to complete their design, and host David Bromstad was interviewing them every step of the way. His vision for the challenge was for them to design with light and shadow in a surprising and new way.

David was really supportive and called it the rock star room, explained Goudreau. He told me that he really liked my bold style and understood what I was trying to get across with my bar-lounge design. I wanted to have the light create patterns on the walls to work with the movement created by the painted designs.

This was not Goudreaus first time working with She finished two projects this year using the companys LED lighting solutions: a disco-themed bathroom remodel in the West Village with multi-color PAR16 LED light bulbs, and just recently a bar project where the designer specified dimmable high brightness LED strip lights. This specific series of strip light has 120 LEDs per meter, which provides bright, even light for designers to work with. It is also dimmable and available in five color temperatures, so it is great for residential and commercial applications.

Working with lighting that is long-lasting and energy-efficient is important to me, said Goudreau. Lighting is always on my mind from the beginning of a design, and I love giving my clients the flexibility to change the lighting at any time. I think for some designers lighting is an afterthought.
